Stablecorp Digital Currencies has named TD Bank Group (NYSE: $TD) (TSX: $TD) as the primary custodian for reserves backing QCAD (CRYPTO: $QCAD), bringing one of Canada's largest financial institutions into the infrastructure behind the Canadian-dollar stablecoin.

Under the agreement, TD will hold fiat reserves for QCAD Digital Trust as part of a phased custody rollout expected across the third and fourth quarters of 2026.

QCAD is issued by QCAD Digital Trust and backed one-to-one by Canadian dollars held in segregated accounts. The stablecoin is designed for round-the-clock CAD payments and settlement, with a structure built around Canadian securities and financial compliance requirements.

The custody mandate adds a major domestic banking partner to that framework. Reserve quality, segregation and accessibility remain central to how stablecoins are assessed by exchanges, payment providers and institutional users, particularly as regulated issuers compete for a larger role in cross-border settlement.

Jean Desgagné, chair of Stablecorp and former chief executive of the Canadian Depository for Securities, said the agreement reflects the company's view that digital currency adoption in Canada will develop alongside the existing financial system.

He described QCAD as moving "from the experimental phase to the roll-out phase," as the company works to expand the stablecoin across payments, trading and settlement infrastructure.

TD Executive Vice President James Salem said digital assets are changing how value is stored and transferred, adding that the bank plans to provide custody services supporting QCAD as the market develops.

The announcement follows a series of distribution and settlement milestones for the token. QCAD was listed on Kraken in April and was later used in the first onchain Canadian-dollar-to-U.S.-dollar settlement through Circle's (NYSE: $CRCL) StableFX network.

For Stablecorp, the TD relationship gives QCAD a stronger institutional foundation as it moves beyond early-stage adoption. It also places a major Canadian bank closer to a stablecoin market increasingly shaped by regulated reserves, bank-grade custody and integration with traditional financial infrastructure.
