The South Korean wave is coming, and we're not talking about BTS.
SK Hynix, South Korea's second most valuable company, will begin trading on the Nasdaq on Friday under the ticker SKHY. You've probably never heard of it, but you've certainly used its products. The company makes memory chips found in phones and laptops from Apple and Dell.
SK Hynix builds the high-performance chips that power Nvidia, via a multiyear partnership announced in June. South Korean-listed shares of SK Hynix are up more than 222% since January 1 and 636% over the last 12 months, driven by voracious demand for memory. Revenue tripled between 2023 and 2025, hitting nearly $65 billion, per CNBC. Analysts polled by LSEG see it nearly tripling again this year to $235 billion.

The listing will give U.S. investors a real bite of that upside. Previously, the only way for retail investors to gain exposure was through The Roundhill Memory ETF (DRAM), one of the highest-performing ETFs this year.
It's also a smart way for investors to play the picks-and-shovels of AI. While the market debates real-world use cases for LLMs, the companies building them will keep needing chips. That's a good position for SK Hynix.
Still, the company competes directly with Samsung, but the market is growing fast enough for multiple winners. And beyond AI, someone still needs to supply the chips in your phone.
South Korea gave America Gangnam Style, gochujang, and Hyundai SUVs. But its biggest export may end up being memory chips.
