Chevron has signed a new long-term natural gas supply agreement with Alinta Energy, extending a partnership that has supplied Western Australia for more than 40 years and strengthening domestic gas availability in the state.

Under the agreement , Chevron will deliver 46 petajoules of gas over five years beginning in July 2027. The supply will come from the company's equity interests in the Chevron-operated Gorgon and Wheatstone LNG projects, as well as the North West Shelf Project.

How does this deal support Western Australia's energy needs?

The deal provides Alinta Energy, one of Western Australia's largest gas retailers, with long-term supply certainty to serve residential, commercial, and industrial customers. For Chevron, the agreement reinforces the role of its major LNG developments in supporting the state's domestic gas market under Western Australia's domestic gas reservation policy.

Chevron Australia President Balaji Krishnamurthy said the company's Gorgon and Wheatstone projects have become key pillars of the state's energy system since starting operations nearly a decade ago, together supplying about 40% of Western Australia's domestic gas demand.

The agreement comes as gas continues to play a central role in Western Australia's power generation, mining sector and broader industrial economy, while policymakers and market participants seek to maintain reliable domestic supply alongside LNG exports.

For Alinta Energy, the contract strengthens its fuel portfolio as Australia's electricity market continues to evolve, providing greater certainty for customers while supporting ongoing energy security across the state.

The announcement reflects continued investment in long-term domestic gas contracts as producers and retailers seek to balance export commitments with local supply obligations in one of Australia's most important energy-producing regions.
