Blake Cassels & Graydon and Cassels Brock & Blackwell emerged as the leading legal advisers for metals and mining sector mergers and acquisitions (M&A) during the first half of 2026 (H1 2026) in terms of value and volume, respectively, based on a league table from data analytics company GlobalData.

According to GlobalData's Financial Deals Database, Blake Cassels & Graydon topped the value rankings having advised on deals worth $13.8bn.

Cassels Brock & Blackwell was ranked second for deal value, having advised on transactions totalling $13.1bn.

Fasken Martineau DuMoulin followed with $12.1bn, while McCarthy Tetrault handled $12bn and Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison was credited with $11.4bn.

Meanwhile, in terms of volume, Cassels Brock & Blackwell led by handling 13 deals.

Blake Cassels & Graydon ranked third with 12 deals, Fasken Martineau DuMoulin followed with 11 and A&O Shearman managed six deals.

GlobalData lead analyst Aurojyoti Bose said: "Cassels Brock & Blackwell saw a 44.4% increase in the total number of deals advised by it in H1 2026 compared to H1 2025. Resultantly, its ranking by volume improved from second place to the top spot. It also occupied the second position in terms of value.

"The total value of deals advised by Blake Cassels & Graydon also increased by more than threefold, resulting in an improvement in its ranking from the third position by value in H1 2025 to the top spot in H1 2026.

"It advised on five billion-dollar deals in H1 2026, and involvement in these big-ticket deals helped it register a massive jump in total deal value. Blake Cassels & Graydon also occupied the third position in terms of volume."
